In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI issued a document, Summorum Pontificum, that clarified that the Mass prior to the reforms of 1970 was acceptable to be celebrated by any priest. He made a distinction between the Mass commonly offered in most parishes since 1970, called the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite, and the Mass as was offered in 1962, the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. More information about the Extraordinary Form can be found below.
